Clearing a mahjong board fast isn't about matching pairs quickly. A short list of habits beats speed more reliably.

Clear the top layers first, always

Tiles on higher layers unlock more of the board when removed, so prioritizing height over convenience keeps more of the layout open longer.

Count remaining copies of each tile

A tile with only one visible partner left needs to be matched before that partner gets buried or blocked by later moves.

Use the shuffle sparingly

Reshuffling the moment a board looks tricky wastes a limited tool; saving it for a genuinely locked board gets far more value from it.

Track which suits are running low

Once a suit has only a couple of tiles left on the board, matching those pairs becomes urgent - waiting risks one of them getting buried under a later move.

Undo sparingly, not automatically

Relying on undo after every uncertain move removes the habit of reading the board carefully first, which matters more once undo options run out on harder boards.
